Tables: Cell Widths

OBJECTIVE: How to use color in cells, behind both text and graphics

Some people consider a black background cold, unfriendly. Others consider it sophisticated. Designers need to consider their audiences. Let's have some fun with a black background in our table. We'll use enough other colors that it won't be depressing or unfriendly!
Extremely bright colors like this (#CC9966) look great with a black background, and the color is light enough that the text is clear. If you want your text to start at the top of a column, code your TD cell with VALIGN=TOP.

For the graphic on the left, I used a complementary color to move the content outward. I centered the image. Inside the Image Tag, I suggest you always use text for the Alt attribute. Many people don't have enough resources, and turn off their graphics while surfing. At least the tag will let them know the content of the graphic.
This is another cell, with a column span of three. If you're using a very dark background, make sure that your text is white or very light, and reasonably large. Here is how the text looks in bold. While I generally don't recommend bolding large clumps/clusters of text because it sometimes reaches out and pushes readers back, bold in smaller amounts can be effective.
