A MUST-READ! Vocabula Review's latest edition. It covers e-books and language with breathtaking scope. Controversial? Absolutely. Stimulating reading? Yes! Don't miss this superb publication. And if you have comments after having read the issue, write the publisher. http://vocabula.listbot.com/

Elaine Garvin, Artist at http://www.elainegarvin.com illustrates children's books and magazines, as well as greeting cards, and more. A mutual friend in Alaska introduced us via e-mail, and I discovered after visiting her site that she also lives in the Greater Phoenix area.

Garvin says she does much of her work in gouache. Hmmm. I paused, then went to my online reference to learn more: Gouache, in art, is a form of watercolor that uses opaque pigments rather than transparent watercolor pigments. Because gouache colors tend to lighten on drying, one gets a wide range of pearly or pastel-like effects. Gouache was first used by the ancient Egyptians and became widely used from the 5th to 15th century for illuminated manuscripts. Extremely popular in the 18th century, it says, gouache has been widely used in the 20th century by artists for modern expressionist effects. Art lesson completed. Garvin's site is well worth a visit.

Oops! Apologies to Word Place, the home of Daily Grammar. In the last issue, I omitted a valuable colon in their URL. It should have been http://www.dailygrammar.com

DID YOU KNOW THAT a person who leaves a country emigrates from it? When a French person, for example leaves France, he/she is considered a French emigrant. A person who comes into your country immigrates, and is considered an immigrant. Jacques, a French emigrant, immigrated to Brazil. Leaving/out of: think "em." Arriving/into: think "im."
