NOTES FROM JUDY

  1. Correction: in the last issue, regarding "former" and "latter," I said, "2. June, July, and August are good vacation months, but the last is more popular." Profuse apologies. I meant to say "...the last is the most popular." Thanks to an eagle-eyed subscriber.

  2. The free dictionary continues in its popularity. May's winner lives in Nigeria, and the dictionary is on its way. I'm still waiting for permission to print the winner's name, city, or whatever s/he feels is appropriate.

Our April winner, who lives in Vietnam, sent the following message:

Thank you very much for the dictionary. It is very nice and I haven't opened it yet. I just want to introduce it to everybody first. I have also introduced your website to many teachers and students of English who, as I think, will find it useful and interesting.

As you've probably known, getting access to the Internet in this country is still a luxury. I have used the Internet since March, for about two hours a week. Many American businessmen have confirmed that Internet services in this country is the most expensive in the world.

My hope is that we are able to do what people in other parts of the world normally do - that is, paying a fixed amount of money each month and getting a fast, good access to the net.

WINDOWS KEYSTROKES AND TIPS

Have you ever found a page you really wanted to pass along to others (by providing the URL), only to discover it was created in frames and only the home page URL shows in the address window? Here's a tip for copying it:
  1. Right click your mouse on the page (not on a graphic). This brings a drop-down box.
  2. Go to the last item, Properties.
  3. Left click once on Properties.
  4. You will see a gray box with page data in it. One of the items is the URL.
  5. Go to that URL and click once, hold your left mouse down, and "select" the entire URL by moving to the right until the entire URL is selected (highlighted).
  6. Stay on the last character, lightly lift up your left mouse finger and right-click once. A drop-down box appears.
  7. Choose "Copy" by left clicking on the word "Copy" once.
  8. Now you have the pesky URL on the Windows clipboard, and can paste it into your e-mail or any file you choose.
