THE ART BIN CELEBRATES FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
The Art Bin, founded and operated by Karl-Erik Tallmo, is a Swedish and international forum for art, literature, language, music, history, etc. Here one finds articles, essays, poetry, fiction, paintings and music as well as some rare classical or other source texts in Swedish, English, French, or German.

"In The Art Bin," says Talmo, "I wanted to publish all such things that I myself wanted to read or have access to on the Web, rare source texts, newly written articles about anything from James Joyce to comics, from computer communication to epics of chivalry - and, naturally, art and music.

"The possibility to easily find source texts was to me among the greatest benefits of Internet technology. As a journalist or researcher you could sit at your desk at home or at your office and immediately read texts needed for a particular assignment. No more waiting at library loan desks. Instant access. Knowledge a mouseclick away. In spite of everything, there still seemed to be hope for the world."

Much of this material is useful for educational purposes. Published 2-4 times a year. All issues are collected in a database, presently with appr. 70 Mb of cultural varia, equalling around 10,000 book pages of text and more than 400 images. http://art-bin.com/

JOYZINE & THE ADVENTURES OF ZOE began life revolving around Joy Williams's former occupation as a music journalist, therefore in the Music Section there are many interviews with famous musicians and bands, covering a variety of musical genres - from David Bowie and Duran Duran to Herbie Hancock and Frank Sinatra, Metallica to the Cure and many, many more.

One of the many faces of Joy Williams, publisher of JoyZine & the Adventures of ZoeThe Adventures of Zoe are real-life memoirs from behind the scenes with many of these same musicians, often accompanied with photos. Before long, an "Australia" section was added, since that is where Williams currently resides - and one can find everything from current news to historical information to a growing library of Aboriginal Dreamtime legends, much of it enhanced with Aboriginal art; a huge and comprehensive 'Strine Decoded: Dictionary of Australian English, which includes much other information such as local flora and fauna and some famous cities and localites; there's a section on Australian food and recipes, and another on the very unique Queenslander house.

Then there's the Literature section, with loads of memoirs, short stories, science fiction serials, a travelogue of Australia, and poetry - plus reviews and charts and other tidbits. The site is enhanced by artwork from several contributors - currently on the front page is one of Tina Oloyede's great fractal works. Many people ask if there are consistent standards for punctuating and capitalizing Internet-related words. Internet glossaries & dictionaries. There is no one authority, but I have some excellent links on my Webgrammar Dictionaries page: http://www.webgrammar.com/dictionaries.html page:

  • http://www.netlingo.com/

Many in-house style guides are being created to include a glossary of spelling, punctuation, and capitalization of cyberspace words, phrases and acronyms, as well as how to cite online sources.

DID YOU KNOW that the word "earth" is generally lowercase. It's capitalized when used as the proper name of the planet, e.g., "The astronauts returned to Earth." - "The pattern applied to Mars, Jupiter, Earth, the sun and the moon." Lowercase when used in the following manners, "She is down to earth." - "He moved heaven and earth in his search." AP Stylebook
