In this issue:

  1. Meet artist Helen Harris. I've become a fan of her work. See if
you don't agree that she is a gifted artist. (And she shares some of
her excellent work at Webgrammar's discussion forum.)
    http://www.helenharrispaintings.com/

  2. Webgrammar's Discussion Forum, at http://webgrammar.ning.com/ , is
becoming a lot of fun. Retired professor Harold V. Cordry joined, and
shortly thereafter two of his former students came on board. We're a
small group, so this is quite a coincidence. We have some students
and also some other grammar experts, so it's worth visiting. We have
many other categories, so feel free to start some other discussions.
I'll help out if things seem to lag.

If you join, please go to "Settings" then "Email" on the upper left of
the page, so you can be notified by email any time there's an addition
to a discussion. If you should want to stop following a discussion,
there's a link at the end of the latest message in each discussion
titled "Stop Following." Click it and you won't get any more emails.

I prefer getting email messages, so if I forget to check the site, I
haven't missed anything. Ning is a good platform, and it's improving.
Do consider getting involved, especially if you have no experience
with social networking. It's good to know what it's all about. And
you can always start your own forum. Tailor it for family, friends,
organizations, clubs, hobbies, etc. Learn at Webgrammar's place and
then go out and multiply. Or something.

GRAMMAR, USAGE and STYLE - Business Protocol for folding letters

Did you know there's a business protocol for folding letters? Someone
contacted me today and wanted to know the right way for a letter-size
piece of paper to be folded. Here's what I found out:

For 8 1/2 x 11 paper that is going in a #10 envelope, or other stationery
with a No. 9 or Monarch envelope, or a No. 6 3/4 envelope, Gregg Reference
Manual (1391) says:

  1. Bring the bottom third of the letter up and make a crease.

  2. Fold the top of the letter down to within 3/8 inch of the crease you
made in step 1. Then make the second crease.

  3. The creased edge made in step 2 goes into the envelope first.
