In this issue:

  1. One of my subscribers has an interesting comment. He says, "There is
something that I have been wondering about for years: Under 'Note from Judy'
is the title 'Help a Reporter Out.'Is it a matter of preference or rule that
the wording sequence of the title is Help a Reporter Out rather than Help
Out a Reporter? The latter seems preferable to me."

What do you think? Click "reply" to respond.

  2. I started a Webgrammar forum at http://webgrammar.ning.com/, but the
jury is still out. It's pretty quiet. Why? Most of us have not turned on
the settings that will let us email them. So someone can start a discussion,
but if others don't sign up to get email notification when there's another
comment, the only time they even go to the forum is when they have a free
    moment.

Email notifications are great when used that way. You can follow a discussion
and you can also "unfollow" a discussion. So if you want to join in or follow
a discussion, get into the settings area and change things so you can
    follow.

Don't like it that way? Change the settings back.

We can share some thoughts and ideas and references here, and then go on
about our business. Give us a try. I'm not ready to give up this forum. It helps me
    learn more about social networking.

GRAMMAR, USAGE and STYLE - Homonyms: Their, There, They're

This word grouping often confuses.

Their: belonging to; possessive of "they"
There: at, or in that place
They're: combination of "they are"

Their business is located there, but they're not in at the moment.

DAKIN FIRE INSURANCE MAPS
Fire insurance maps, says Internet Scout Report, are an important
source of historical information about cities throughout the U.S,
and this delightful collection from the University of Hawaii offers
a great selection of these valuable documents.

Currently, the collection contains 78 total maps of various urbanized areas within the Hawaiian Islands. Most of the maps are focused on Honolulu and they reveal the early stages of intense urbanization across the city.

The maps date from 1891 to 1906 and they feature a tremendous amount
of detail including information about local road infrastructure,
building footprints, and so on.

This resource will be of great use to urban historians, geographers,
and others with an urban bent.
