NOTE FROM JUDY

"HAS LAIN" CAN NOW BE LAID TO REST
Last issue I asked for help on using "has lain." I received a number
of excellent responses. Thank you. Here are some examples:

* My shiftless husband has lain on the couch all day instead of doing the
few chores I asked hiim to do.

* My dog has lain in the same sunny spot in the living room every morning
for as long as I can remember.

Subscriber Peggy Titus-Hall sent this URL:
http://www.peggytitushall.com/business_writer2.htm

And in the spirit of jest, Bobby S. said:

* ...that's an easy question for us Southerners. "I 'has lain'
awake fretting about my speling, grammer, a pro-noun-c-a-tion."

Thanks also to: Connie, Carter M., Mona Scott (our own Mrs. Bluezette),
Hyacinth, and Sandy B.

WINDOWS KEYSTROKES & TIPS - Help - F1

In most Windows programs, press the F1 key to get context-sensitive help.

DID YOU KNOW -  What's the difference between "in behalf" and "on behalf"?

Have you sometimes wondered if you used the right phrase when--for example--
you accepted a gift awarded to your company at the annual meeting? Chicago
Manual of Style, 15th Edition (5.202) that "in behalf" means in the interest
of or for the benefit of, while "on behalf" means you're acting as an agent
or representative of.

Examples:

In: The decision is in behalf of the patient.
On: On behalf of Mr. Scott, I would like to express heartfelt thanks.

objectivity, accuracy and timeliness. This guide defines the criteria,
documents incidents of questionable, false or fraudulent information as
reported in the news or trade literature, provides examples of Web sites
that illustrate good or bad information, and suggests strategies that
