NOTE FROM JUDY: Webgrammar's been a busy bee at home and at work. Thanks for your patience!
Announcement: I've discontinued the dictionary drawing. There were too many obstructions to even finding a winner. In the future, I'll still hand out dictionaries, but on a case-by-case basis.
Enjoy the remainder of this beautiful month, and if you know of any great websites for me to use in this ezine, drop me an email!

WINDOWS KEYSTROKES & TIPS - Repeat typing
If you need to repeat something you've typed (especially when editing), use Ctrl+Y. Example, say you're replacing a few (but not all) hyphens with em (longer) dashes. Replace the first hyphen with an em dash. Move to the next hyphen, highlight it, and type Ctrl+Y. You'll get another em dash.

DID YOU KNOW - Words and letters used as words: Scholastic grades
Q. When you're talking about someone's grades, and you want to say that they have straight As, do you use an apostrophe? Or do you just add the "s" as I have done?
A. Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, University of Chicago Press (7.64 - scholastic grades), says:
Letters used to denote grades are usually capitalized and set in roman type.
The example CMS gives: She finished with one A, three Bs, and two Cs.
So: no apostrophe when they're grouped as above. The rules aren't hard and fast. Note that CMS says "usually." Just be consistent.

These historic books range from tiny "Thumb Bibles" to illustrated nursery rhymes.
