NOTE FROM JUDY

  1. I regret to say that we closed our social networking site. Ning.com is going
to begin charging fees to use the site, and instead I'll look at other options.

  2. Complete makeover on Digifeld - now a site offering redigitized graphics by (mostly) Judy Vorfeld at no cost. Great for wall art marketing publications, eBooks, children's books. Let your imagination soar!

Hope you're having a wonderful segue into summer!

GRAMMAR, USAGE and STYLE - SPIT 'N' SPAT by Harold V. Cordry

Spit’s past tense is properly spat, as Margaret Nicholson reports in A
Dictionary of American English Usage (1957), which I’ve kept at hand for
many years: How many Americans nowadays say spat? I use spat, of course,
usually in a figurative sense, as in "He spat out his blunt refusal in
terms that left no one wondering where his loyalties lay." Spat has a
musty taste, but few would argue that it's wrong. It's simply not heard
much -- the point being that one usually encounters it in print. This
fact -- if it is a fact -- should be taken as an indicator that spat is
on the way out.
