In this issue:

  1. Webgrammar's Discussion Forum, at http://webgrammar.ning.com/ is
becoming a lot of fun, and I'm using it in different ways to explore
how people who want their own social network can operate it. In some
instances, ning.com can be used effectively in place of a website.
    Everything changes so rapidly!

Ning.com can also be used to broaden the exposure of many nonprofit
organizations or any number of community associations. It has a place
to post blog messages, to create groups within the larger group, and
to send personal messages. Might be a wonderful platform for authors.

I'll keep studying it to see how you can use it.

Twitter continues to intrigue me as a way to get important, quick
announcements out, and as a way to connect with like-minded people.
Take a moment to read "What's a Dry Cleaner Doing on Twitter?"
    http://www.mpdailyfix.com/2009/02/33103_pm_ann_handley_says.htm

  2. THE JOYS OF PHOTOGRAPHY

What a thrill to pack up my cameras and
go picture taking with my brother. We've had such good times at the
Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium and Desert Botanical Garden. See some photos from DGB, where a Dale Chihuly: The Nature of Glass exhibit is going on. Amazing.

GRAMMAR, USAGE and STYLE - "A" or "an" preceding an abbreviation.

When an abbreviation follows an indefinite article, the choice of "a"
or "an" is determined by the way the abbreviation would be read aloud,
says Chicago Manual of Style (15.9).

Acronyms are read as words, it says,
except when used as adjectives, and are rarely preceded by "a," "an,"
or "the." Initialisms are read as a series of letters and are often
preceded by an article.

Tip: In precise usage, "acronym" refers only to terms based on the
initial letters of their various elements, and read as single words
(AIDS, NATO); "initialism" refers to terms read as a series of letters
(BBC, ATM); and "abbreviation" is used for both acronyms and initialisms.
