NOTE FROM JUDY
1. Longtime subscriber and publisher, Karl-Erik Tallmo, recently sent me the URL of an article he'd written. I discovered that what he documented is highly insightful and might provide insight to others diagnosed withfibromyalgia. In the opening paragraph, Tallmo says:
As I woke up one morning in May 1993, everything changed. Life changed. It would turn out, this was a day of the kind that constitutes a demarcation. Everything that had happened in my life would from then on be categorized by if it had occurred before or after that particular date. Life took a new direction.
Controversial? Perhaps. But you may find it well worth the read. See the URL in the Complimentary Endorsement section of this ezine.
2. Do you need to conserve paper? Consider Fine Print, which is, in essence, a printer driver that gives you all kinds of choices: * Print 2, 4, or 8 pages on a single sheet * Double sided printing, booklets * Page deletion and insertion * Ability to combine multiple print jobs into a single job * Save to bmp, tiff, emf and jpeg formats * Watermarks, headers, footers
Through the years I've saved lots of paper (and perhaps even a small tree) by using FinePrint. It's relatively inexpensive. More here: http://www.fineprint.com/products/fineprint/index.html
3. I hope your new year is going well. My family is doing well, and we're enjoying some new dynamics with our adopted cat, Bear. He enjoys being put on a leash to spend some time in the back yard.
Actually, he convinced my husband, Jack, that he (the cat) was so old and overweight that he could NEVER jump to the top of our block fence (where he could then visit and view our neighbors). For quite a few days, Bear played his game with finesse.
He reveled in the warmth of the desert landscaping, wandered around the yard with a carefree indifference (we though), and nibbled on small patches of grass. Jack felt positive that Bear would not try jumping to the top of the fence, but continued to monitor the cat, just in case.
Suddenly, when Jack least expected it, Bear soared to the fencetop and triumphantly looked down on Jack. Elderly? Overweight? Perhaps, but didn't we know that he was a fearless Lion King? He may be.
But he's now a king who wears a harness when he goes outdoors.

Writer and publisher Karl-Erik Tallmo says:
After two and a half years of work my web magazine The Art Bin is up online at last. The delay has been almost absurd, but it is due to my illness, fibromyalgia, with chronic fatigue and muscle pain etc, which keeps me from working during long periods.
I got the idea to devote an issue of my magazine to this topic, the so-called new diagnoses, such health problems that are not considered quite appropriate, health problems that sometimes are not recognized by doctors and subject to dispute among scientists. The epistemological and political matter, how one should relate to possible but yet not proven hazards, is a cardinal problem here.

This is my own story, of nine years of illness with fibromyalgia, probably caused by mercury poisoning from dental amalgam.
DID YOU KNOW - Using "that" or "which"
THAT Generally, use "that" to introduce restrictive (essential) clauses. When you use ESSENTIAL clauses, don't separate them from the rest of the sentence by using commas.
Example: The book that my friend wrote is called "Fatal Games."
Tip: You want everyone to know about the BOOK THAT YOUR FRIEND WROTE. It's not the book alone that's important: it's the book that your friend wrote.
WHICH Generally, use "which" to introduce nonrestrictive (nonessential)clauses.
Separate a NONESSENTIAL clause from the rest of the sentence by commas.
Example: The book, which my friend wrote, is called "Fatal Games."
Tip: The book and its title are more important than its author. When using "which" in this kind of sentence, think "by the way," or "incidentally." It will help you understand that the words inside the commas are not vital to the meaning of the sentence.

EDUCATION
BUILD A PRAIRIE - The prairie is one of North America's great ecosystems and a vital habitat for many plants and animals. Over 98% of the prairie has been lost in the past 150 years, but some people are trying to bring it back, hectare by hectare. Restoring a prairie is a great challenge, requiring knowlege of biology, ecology, climatology, and even economics. Are you up for the challenge? If you choose the right plants and animals, you can watch the prairie come to life before your eyes! http://www.bellmuseum.org/mnideals/prairie/build/index.html
